Launched nearly 30 years ago in Paris by François Pasquier and his close friends, Le Dîner en Blanc de Paris continues to bring more than 10,000 people together each year in some of the French Capital’s most prestigious sites. Over the years, the event has grown in recognition and attendance, taking place at the Pont des Arts, the Champs-Élysée, and the garden of the Palais Royal, amongst others. In 2013, Le Dîner en Blanc de Paris celebrated its 25th anniversary by gathering nearly 15,000 guests at Le Louvre, in the garden of Trocadero, and in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Today, more than 70 cities around the world host their own Dîner en Blanc, including Paris, New York, Sydney, Tokyo, London, Los Angeles, Kigali, Haiti, Chicago, Philadelphia, Melbourne, Johannesburg, Singapore, Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.

In 2012, Kigali became the first the first African city to host this global event and it celebrated its 5th edition on July 23rd, 2016.

Le Dîner en Blanc® promotes friendship, elegance, and a sense of community.

Le Dîner en Blanc® promotes friendship, elegance, and a sense of community. In Rwanda, the annual event seeks to become part of the fabric of the country’s MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and events) tourism strategy and to promote local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Le Dîner en Blanc® - Kigali attracts domestic tourists as well as participants from the region (Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Ivory Coast, South Africa) and the world (Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Australia, the Netherlands, and the US). The event has made its mark not only by offering a unique tourism product, but especially by promoting local business such as event planners, restaurants, caterers, hotels, retailers, entertainers and much more.

The location of the pop-up picnic remains undisclosed until the very last minute. In previous editions, the event was held in Gacuriro in 2012, Giporoso in 2013, Kagugu in 2014, Amahoro Stadium in 2015 and in Nyarugenge in 2016.
